3.3V, 2.5Gbps single-chip transceiver for GEPON and GPON ONU/ONT module apps

Micrel has introduced the SY88236L/AL, a single supply 3.3V, 2.5Gbps integrated burst mode laser driver and post amplifier for GEPON and GPON ONU/ONT module applications. The burst-mode driver provides a 2.5 ns transmit enable and disable time, and delivers modulation current up to 85mA with a high compliance voltage that makes it suitable for high-current operation with the laser DC-coupled to it. The post amplifier can detect signals with amplitude of 5mVPP.

Other key features are,

2.4V minimum laser compliance voltage
Bias current up to 70mA
Infinite bias current hold time between bursts
Bias, Modulation, and power monitoring
Programmable LOS level

The SY88236L comes with internal input termination while the SY88236L/AL does not come with internal input termination

"Due to the increase in bandwidth demand for broadband services, such as VOIP, data, video and bundled services known as Triple Play, GEPON and GPON have become the mainstream technologies for delivering higher bandwidth and higher quality services to more users at a lower cost," noted Tom Wong, vice president of High Bandwidth, Micrel. "The SY88236L/AL single-chip ONU/ONT module transceiver not only exceeds required performance and provides many highly desirable features, but also meets our customers' cost objectives."

Package: 32-pin (5mm x 5mm) MLF package.
