Integrated, 4-channel, high-brightness LED driver with switching
DC-DC controller
Maxim has introduced the MAX16814, a high integrated four-string
HB (high-brightness) LED driver with a switching DC-DC controller
to generate the voltage required to drive multiple strings
of LEDs and delivers up to 150mA per string. The MAX16814
is ideal for backlighting LCD TVs, desktop monitors, automotive
displays, instrument clusters, and industrial displays.
And suitable for automotive front lights and low-/high-beam
assemblies, space-constrained, and other solid-state lighting
applications.
Other key features are,
4-channel linear LED current sinks with internal MOSFETs
Full-scale LED current adjustable from 20mA to 150mA
Drives one to four LED strings
Boost, SEPIC, or coupled-inductor buck-boost current-mode
DC-DC controller
200kHz to 2MHz programmable switching frequency
External switching frequency synchronization
Adaptive output-voltage optimization to minimize power dissipation
4.75V to 40V operating input voltage range
Less than 40µA shutdown current
5000:1 PWM dimming at 200Hz
Open-drain fault indicator output
Open-LED and LED short detection and protection
Overtemperature protection
The MAX16814 employs a unique, patent-pending technique
to deliver a wide PWM dimming range of 5000:1 with a 200Hz
dimming frequency and allows optimizing display performance
in all lighting environments.
The HB LEDs do not contain hazardous chemicals like mercury
and with operating input voltage of 4.75V to 40V allows
it to withstand 40V load dumps.
Operating temperature range: -40°C to +125°C
Package: Thermally enhanced, 4mm x 4mm, 32-pin TQFN and
20-pin TSSOP package
Price: Starts at $1.39 for 1k pieces
