Stand-Alone LIN transceivers from Microchip for automotive applications

Microchip has introduced the MCP2003 and MCP2004 stand-alone LIN transceivers. These devices are AEC-Q100-certified devices and 3rd party-LIN/J2602 approved and can fulfill the requirements of automotive manufacturers. The transceivers are compliant with the LIN Bus 1.X/2.0/2.1 and SAE J2602 standards, and provide ESD and EMC performance to make them suitable for harsh environments. These transceivers feature low current-consumption ratings, therefore allowing for high battery life and aid in non-ignition-switched applications.

LIN is 2nd most widely used network standard in automotive applications in terms of number of nodes. The MCP2003/4 is improved version of Microchip's previous MCP2021/2 transceivers with an integrated voltage regulator.

"Microchip is committed to aligning our new LIN products with customer requirements, giving them a competitive, high-performance LIN solution," said Bryan J. Liddiard, vice president of marketing with Microchip's Analog and Interface Products Division. "This is exemplified by the release of our MCP2003/4 stand-alone LIN transceivers, which meet and exceed major automotive manufacturer requirements, while maintaining industry-leading low power consumption, and high ESD and EMC performance. These stand-alone transceivers complement our rapidly growing LIN portfolio, giving customers more flexibility when designing their LIN systems."

The MCP2003/4 transceivers find application in the automotive market, including rain sensors, sunroofs, window lift and few other sensor or actuator-based systems. These devices are applicable for many non-automotive applications such as industrial (e.g. large lawn mowers, golf carts, metering and door locks), medical (e.g. motors and control panels on wheel chairs, and hospital beds) and appliance markets (e.g. washing machine and stove control panels and sensors).

The following table summarizes the development tools available to help designers get started with the MCP2003/4 transceivers.
