EAL6+ certification for ST23YR80 microcontrollers from ST

STMicroelectronics has announced details of its formal EAL6+ Common criteria certification (ref 2010/01 and 2010/02) for its ST23YR80 secure dual microcontroller, including its optional crypto libraries. ST claims this is the first microcontroller to have formally incorporated EAL6+ certification to the common criteria methodology. With the use of IDeal Pass (embedded software from Sagem Securité) this device is said to be capable of completing a secure passport transaction in less than 3 seconds. Therefore it result in high productivity and security at border controls and short wait times for travelers. It has obtained a Certificate of conformity to ISO/IEC 14443 standard from SOLIATIS LAB: Reference SL.E.CER.0912.001, thus satisfying all e-passport norms, including Basic Access Control (BAC) and Extended Access Control (EAC) using the highest crypto-key length.

Some of the key features of ST23YR80 are

1) Enhanced crypto-processor NESCRYPT.
2) Optional full feature certified crypto library.
3) High CPU clock frequency.
4) Dense on-chip memories: 80 Kbytes EEPROM, 390 Kbytes user ROM, 8Kbytes of Ram.
5) Enhanced contactless performances using ISO14443 type B interface
