Magnetic angle positioning sensor with
SAE SENT J2716 interface
Austriamicrosystems has unveiled the AS5165, a contactless
magnetic angle position sensor for accurate angular measurement
over a full 360°. This is a magnetic rotary sensor and
is said to operate in harsh environmental conditions. The
interface used to communicate all the sensor information
is SENT J2716.
The AS5165 magnetic encoder is a system-on-chip and consists
of integrated Hall elements, an analog front-end, digital
signal processing and good protection features. Protection
against overvoltage up to 27V is provided power supply and
output pins, protection against reverse polarity to -18V
is also provided to the power supply, broken wire and short
circuit detection is also provided. Its architecture is
said make the sensor insensitive stray magnetic fields.
It finds application in throttle and valve position sensing
and several power train sensing applications.
Only a simple two-pole magnet rotating over the center
of the chip, placed above or below the IC is used to measure
the angle. It is said to be tolerant to magnetic misalignment,
air gap variations, and temperature variations. Due to devices
inherent accuracy no calibration is said to be required.
The measurement of angular position has a programmable resolution
of 0.022° = 16384 positions per revolution.
Package: TSSOP14
Availability: will be showcased at the Sensor Expo, June
7-9, 2010, Rosemont, IL.
