Microtronix's DMA Engine for Altera's FPGA

Microtronix has released Lancero Scatter-Gather DMA Engine for Altera FPGAs. The bidirectional Scatter-gather Direct Memory Access (DMA) Engine for PCI Express interfaces are implemented on a Linux platform for which IP and Linux software drivers are provided.

The Lancero Design Kit consists of hardware IP core and software driver package for exchanging full-duplex, high bandwidth streaming data over PCI Express. It uses the Altera Avalon bus architecture to provide solutions for high speed peripherals to Linux host computer systems. It finds application in medical and print imaging, wireless radio, high bandwidth data acquisition and logging, NAS solid state and memory storage systems, video surveillance, video capture, graphics frame-buffer overlays and digital signage.

"By packaging a powerful Scatter-Gather DMA Engine, a PCIe Bridge with Linux drivers, the Lancero Design Kit streamlines the engineering design task of adding high bandwidth peripherals into embedded systems." said Norman McCall, president of Microtronix. "Using the supplied reference designs with the supporting Microtronix and Altera's IP cores, customers can significantly reduce their design risk and time to market."
