New MOSFETs for LCD TVs from Fairchild Semiconductor saves external diodes

Fairchild Semiconductor has released new MOSFETs called Ultra FRFET family for LCD Television power applications with reverse recovery time (trr) of 35ns~65ns and the industry's smallest reverse recovery current (1.8 ~ 3.1A).

These MOSFETS eliminates the use of two fast recovery diodes (FRDs) and two blocking diodes which are used to reduce the reverse recovery current and preventing the built-in diode of the MOSFET from turning on.

The other advantage of these MOSFETs is, they offer a typical gate charge of only 16 nano Coulombs to reduce the turn-on and turn-off losses of the MOSFET. Fairchild's Ultra FRFET products also feature a dv/dt immunity of 20V/ns, to protect the LCD TVs from interference.
