800V TRIACs from Renesas for controlling power supply switching in AC circuits

Renesas has announced the development of eight new 800V TRIAC devices, including the BCR16CM-16LH, with high commutation characteristics, making them suitable for AC motor drive applications in electric household appliances such as washing machines and vacuum cleaners. These new power semiconductor devices used for controlling power supply switching in AC circuits.

The main features of the new TRIAC products are,

High commutation to reduce the total number of components
Voltage rating of 800 V
Critical rate of rise of off-state commutating voltage (dv/dt)c for which a high value is desirable to avoid malfunction, is approximately two to 20 times that of previous TRIAC
Product
Guaranteed voltage of 800 V and junction temperature (Tj) of 150 Deg C

The new TRIACs use a planar technology and minimize off-state leak current
To match a variety of electric household appliances (white goods), the lineup of new TRIACs are available in current ratings of 4 A, 10 A, 12 A, and 16 A, and the available packages are uninsulated TO-220 and MP3A and insulated TO-220FL.

Availability: Sample shipments will start in April 2010 in Japan
